My curiousity was sparked after all the different privacy cases discussed in lecture 34. Privacy is one of those topics that spans over many fields, we just see it most in sexual exploitation. I did a little research and came across a cases from the LSU Law Center titled, "School pregnancy test violates student's privacy rights".

Michael Seip, a Pennsylvania high school swim coach, is being charged for violating his student Leah's Fourth Amendment right. Seip suspected that Leah was pregnant and required her to take a pregnancy test. Seip along with other members on the swim team suspected Leah may be pregnant. Leah and her family however feel that forcing her to take a pregnancy test violates her free speech and assocation regarding personal matters.

This tricky cases has gone back and forth, but in the end Seip was cleared. I think with this particular cases, Seip is in a bind either way. I do think he violated Leah's privacy rights, even if it was in her best interest and that of her unborn child. Seip was concerned that if she was in fact pregnant it would be unsafe for her to continue swimming. Morally Michael Seip did what any good coach would do and look out for the best interest of his team. Perhaps Seip was a blessing in disguise because by the time Leah saw her physician she was over 6 months pregnant!

The Courts cleared Seip on the fact that athletes give up rights to be mandatorily administered to take a drug test. Requiring Leah to take a pregnancy test was merely a simple precaution for the best interest of Leah and her unborn fetus.

I cannot believe we are ending the semester already. It has been a very interesting one to say the least. Never did I think I would have the opportunity to take a class of this nature. In fact when I tell people I am taking a cyberporn & society class, I get a few responses. One is that they are disgusted, some are very interested, and others are confused at what we actually study.

I have not only learned many things from this class, but I have adjusted to new styles of learning. I was never really exposed to blogging, thanks to this class I am now interested in getting inlvolved with other blog sites. I found that now only listening to lectures, but reading my classmates thoughts and responses helped out a lot. I retain information much better if it comes from a source I can relate to (ex: other students).

My eyes have really been opened to all the effects pornography can have on people. What I once viewed as something people look at for fun, I now realize can have damaging effects. Many of the things I saw disturbed and made me think of how sick some people in this world are. My heart breaks for those effected by sex trades or children who get sucked in to the pornography without fully understanding it.

I thought this class was very well planned out and I enjoyed the variety of lectures/readings/frontline specials. Things were always split up pretty well and with such a large class I really enjoyed reading people's blogs.

I did a search for porn blogs outside of the class and came up with a few different ones. However the one that I thought people would find interesting and disturbing is "Tom Cruise to Eat Placenta".

As we all know Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are having a baby, which I actually heard on the news was born today. There has been a lot of controversy because of the fact that both Cruise and Holmes are Scientologists. The blog "Tom Cruise to Eat Placenta", is located on Boogie's Porn Blog. Boogie feels that Cruise belongs to a Scientology Cult that requests Katie give birth in silence and that Tom Cruise will eat the placenta and cord. According to Cruise, "it will be very nutritious."

Many people responded to this blog with all the crazy things I was thinking. First of all, the thought of eating a bloody body part disgusts me and I see no real purpose to it. Studies have shown placenta may be good for hair, but certainly not to eat! I can respect Cruises's opinion, but I do not understand the reasoning behind this odd practice.

After reading the article and looking over the blogs by Mr. Lucas, I was fascinated at all the places and people he has met through his career. It's hard to just ask one or two questions because a few came to mind, but I narrowed it down to two nonetheless.

My first question is I had seen a comment in the article where you stated how Hollywood today "paints gay characters in a clownish sort of way". Obviously this stereotype does not apply to all gay men, in fact most of the photos I saw on the site showed some well-endowed masculine men. Do you that in next few years Hollywood will begin to change there portrayls of gay men? I mean we already have seen somewhat of a change with recent films like Brokeback Mountain……

My second question is what inspired you to choose a career in the porn industry? I am sure you have encountered some forms of criticism at some point, as we all do. Who or what helped you through that to become the successful person you are today?

I had to laugh a little when I read about nudist colony family vacations. I don't know about anyone else, but I would be disgusted to see my parents or my parent's friends naked. I guess to each is own and if you are brought up in this lifestyle, it wouldn't be such a big deal.

I think the body is a beautiful thing, but we don't need to show it off to the world. As the blog, "The Story behind Nudists" states, "being naked can have health benefits and is very natural because we are all born naked." However I personally feel the only people, who should see your "natural beauty" is your significant other or spouse.

Sexuality is something that defines a relationship. Although you may not being having sex with other people on these nudist colonies, you are putting yourself on display. I would think this would confuse children, just as much as pornogrpahy. It may not have the same negative effects as pornography, but it certainly would cause a little confusion. I would imagine it would be a little difficult to explain to a young child, it's alright to be naked around mommy and daddy's friends when we are around, but not when your alone. I think it's asking for trouble and the boundaries are just to sketchy on what could happen to them.

After all this talk, I just googled nudist colony locations and found a family nudist campsite/colony in France (Euronat Nudist Campsite). The main photo for the site is a young couple holding there five year old daughter in the ocean with big smiles. Apparently nothing says happy family fun than getting naked together?!?!

After listening to "The Internet’s Impact on Sex and Society", I feel the mother in the special gave a sense of really what impacts internet sex has on children. She said she found her daughter looking at sex sites with one of her girlfriends. Although completely harmless, it is still a threat. She put it best, when she explained to her daughter that she did not do anything wrong. Instead she further goes on to tell her daughter that she needs to stay away from these sites because they could be harmful to her. I feel that is a great way of handling the situation. More parents need to take this mother as an example, instead they ignore the issue or scrutizine an innocent child that is nothing more than curious. If parents take a more active role in watching/surveying what there children do that would all together eliminate problems. The internet is a must have in society today, so rather than try and seclude children from this great resource we should try and inform them of it's many uses. Let children be aware of porn sites and if they come across them, to just ignore them. The original purpose of the internet is as an informational tool. Alerting kids of porn effects sites with ensure the internet fufills it's intended purpose as a research tool and avoids any harmful effects of pornography has on a kids.

The last lecture for this week came as a bit of surprise to me on the simple fact that it’s okay for porn to be online, but is regulated through the mail? I mean come on let’s not pretend you can’t see pornography online just as easy as if it came in the mail. I don’t know about many people, but I check my email more than my mailbox.
The case about the young man, who received a pornographic item in the mail and his mother saw it and made an issue out of it. Was she that offended that she had to bring this to the courts? If so, then she better never turn on the television or go online. Sex is everywhere and the only way to regulate it, would be to eliminating from all media outlets. I can’t see this happening anytime soon with the amount of people, who don’t find it offensive and actually enjoy it.
There are precautions out there if you really want to avoid pornography, such as the adult “no send” list. Like the “do not call” list, this prohibits any useless phone calls, or in this case porn mail. I think too many people blow things out of proportion. If you don’t like something, the simplest solution is to avoid it.

"The punishments for child porn." taps into the issue of whether or not those involved with child porn should have harsher punishment. After a little investigation, I like this blogger believe in fact that people involved in the downloading or connection to child pornography should in fact have harsher punishment.

I found the site http://www.protectkids.com/index.html, which offers testimonials of child victims of pornography. The testimonial that really got me was from a young man named Bill. He explained how he got into cyber porn at the age of twelve, which further turned into a life of sex and drugs at a very young age. Bill, like most of the people with testimonials on the site, are from kids that ended up at the House of Hope. House of Hope, is like a rehabilitation center for hurting teens that took the wrong path. At the House they learn they can get away from there current lifestyle and learn to find God.

This site also offers ways for parents to protect there children against online sexual abuse and how to pick on signs if abuse is already taking place. Before checking out this site, I was disgusted with the notion of child pornography. This site has only strengthened my belief on how much porn can affect and destroy a childs self-image. Anyone involved with this type of harming action towards a child should be severely punished.

After viewing the blogs, I would say first of all names and titles are a big determination of whether I will look at a blog or not. When you have thousands of blogs in front of you, of course you are going to be more likely to read more creative titles or blogger names. After looking through the blogroll again, I narrowed down my three favorite bloggers. They are "Biggybarks", "Learning Naked", and "Excuse me sir but your balls are showing…bumblebeetuna."

"Biggybarks" blogs were straight to the point with good examples. Biggy relates his own life and I find that to be the most beneficial thing for me when reading a blog. Yes I can sit here and here facts about famous porn stars or people in the porn industry, but it's hearing what other people in the class have to say.

"Learning Naked" had blogs that were much more descriptive and well thought out. I like how this person incorporated other related issues, as seen in the blog titled "Japan Porn & the lack of rape". Rather than just reading comments on lectures, I like to learn things from other people. We may not be an experts on the topic of pornography, but we can definately offer each other some good incite on the topic.

"Excuse me sir but your balls are showing…bumblebeetuna" just makes me laugh. This person adds humor to there blogs, which many of the blogs don't have. After a long day of work and school, I want to come home and read this person's blogs instead of more descriptive/repetitive ones. Then again, how can someone with a blog name like "Excuse me sir but your balls are showing….bumblebeetuna" not be creative! Many of these blogs are just the person's own personal stories that are related to the course somehow. My favorite blog however is, "Remember when Clark wore a condom to school in 3rd grade?" I think the story, as funny and innocent as it is, really does relate to the topic of young children being educated on sex. This person does an awesome job at incorporating real life stories to the situation at hand.

I like each of these bloggers for a different reasons. Overall when it comes down to it, it's who can grab my attention. With all the people in the course, there's a lot of good blogs and it's tough to keep up, but I would say these three have done a fine job.

Porn myths like "Men like a variety in women so porn use helps a man stay faithful to his woman" is the biggest load of crap. Like any company trying to sell there product, they will do or say anything. Is there any real proof to this statement? If a man is not content with his partner, chances are he is going to look for another person to spice things up rather than porn. I think this statement makes porn seem like a relationship saver, where as to me it's an excuse. The average person, unless your a porn addict is going to look for a real person to satisfy them, not porn. Porn is not the solution to an unsatisified relationship. If a man is in a relationship and needs to watch porn, it's because he's not satisfied or has a porn addiction.
